چکیده

Background: Schizophrenia is one of the mental disorder with many problematic issues, in both psychologically and socially. This disease requires provision long-term antipsychotic therapy, hence could rise other potential health problems. Antipsychotic treatment can cause serious glucometabolic side-effects, including type 2 diabetes hyperglycemic emergency. Recent attention has also been focused on antipsychotic-induced emergencies experienced by new users typical atypical antipsychotic. Patients treated APDs have ~10 times higher risk developing hyperglycaemic emergencies. In our pre-eliminary study, hyperglycemia condition patients occurs four seven who received antipsychotics. often overlooked not routinely evaluated. Moreover, it develop into increase morbidity mortality schizophrenia patients. this we would like to determine acute effects metabolic (hyperglycemia) (Risperidone Haloperidol) Measurement blood sugar levels was performed groups haloperidol (N = 15) risperidone 15). Plasma samples were taken at beginning treatment, week IV, VIII. The measurement glucose after meal early morning before breakfast (fasting level 8 hours).
Results: meals significantly Risperidone group compared Haloperidol (p <0.001) IV VIII weeks. Meanwhile, fasting weeks ( p <0.001).
Conclusions: Both antipsychotics an levels. Treatment increased haloperidol. needed monitor effect antipsychotic, especially Risperidone. It necessary dietary regulation physical activities prevent undesired side effects.

Abnormalities in glucose regulation during antipsychotic treatment of schizophrenia.

BACKGROUND Hyperglycemia and type 2 diabetes mellitus are more common in schizophrenia than in the general population. Glucoregulatory abnormalities have also been associated with the use of antipsychotic medications themselves. While antipsychotics may increase adiposity, which can decrease insulin sensitivity, disease- and medication-related differences in glucose regulation might also occur ...

[Metabolic risk during antipsychotic treatment in patients with schizophrenia].

Compared with the general population, persons with schizophrenia are characterized with an increased prevalence of obesity, type 2 diabetes mellitus, and cardiovascular disease. Weight gain and increased adiposity is associated with decreases in insulin sensitivity, leading to an increased risk of hyperglycaemia and hyperlipidemia. Antipsychotic drugs can increase adiposity and the range of tri...

Variations of blood glucose level in non-diabetic patients before and after Electroconvulsive Therapy

Introduction: Application of electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) for the induction of generalized seizure was first introduced in 1938. It is applied for disorders as severe depression particularly for cases which do not respond to drug therapy, or during pregnancy when medication is detrimental to the fetus. The debate on the effect of ECT on blood glucose level is still contradictory. However, st...
